This series of seven volumes is divided into two parts. The first, 1842, is entitled, "Ensayo sobre el verdadero estado de la cuestion social y politica que se agita en la Republica Megicana." It is a treatise on the contemporary economic, social, and political problems of Mexico, with suggestions for their solution. The second, 1839-1850, consists of legal allegations, reports and related material presented by Otero before the Supreme Court, the Federal Congress, and other authorities in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Querétaro. It deals with civil and criminal suits, i.e., execution of wills, taxation, property rights, legal procedure, armed robbery, homicide, et cetera, including a conspiracy charge on which the author had been imprisoned. Edited by the author's son, Ignacio Otero.
